Individual Change Project

Before coming to the US, I used to work for Mohs Real Estate Group, a company based in the Middle East. It is a real estate company but it provides other services as well. I was a customer service specialist. The company had hired six customer service specialists as a way to improve their operations and increase their work efficiency and effectiveness. The company decided to change the way it operates by changing from a paper-based system to a computer based system. Initially, the company only involved two people in its change process. They realized great benefits by using the computers instead of paper. A major change transition that will help me add value to my career is gaining knowledge on how to use computers in a professional way. The change in the company made me realize that I needed to have adequate knowledge to continue working there. In addition, it has become almost impossible to work in any organization without having essential computer skills. Everything seems to have become digitalized in the modern era. Therefore, there is a need to enhance my knowledge on computers and information technology.

The change will benefit me greatly since it will increase my marketability. I will have more chances of finding employment when I have computer skills. It will also benefit the organization that I will work for in future. I will be able to suggest ways of integrating computers at the work place as one way of improving work operations. One of the greatest personal challenges I face is that I may not find enough time to do all that I want to do. The greatest organization challenge I foresee is that the company may not provide me with the adequate time I need to go back to class. The company expects people to give their best and dedicate their time and effort in work. Therefore, it is possible that I will have to struggle through school as I seek ways of improving on my computer literacy.

I will highlight to the company the benefits that it will gain once it decides to implement changes to the entire company. The company is interested in finding ways of increasing its profitability and gaining positive reputation in the industry. Therefore, it will welcome any suggestions that will enable it to realize these objectives. In addition, I will highlight the costs involved in hiring and training new employees versus retaining the older workers. The company may want to hire people who already have the required computer skills. However, it will spend many resources advertising, recruiting, selecting, hiring, and training other people. However, it stands to save time and money if it gives the workers who already work there a chance to improve their skills. The workers already know how the company operates and they will be committed towards learning so that they can implement what they have already learnt. In addition, giving employees the chance to train and explaining to them the benefits and necessity of the change process will prove beneficial because the company will not face a lot of resistance during the change process.

The company will be able to measure and determine the value and benefit added by checking and assessing the different ways that the employees work. If the workers take less time to perform tasks, then the company will know that the change is beneficial in terms of enabling it to save time. This means that the workers can do more tasks and handle more responsibilities. The company can also determine the value of the change based on customer responses. If the customers feel that they are being served more efficiently, then they will express this to the company. Alternatively, the company can have suggestion boxes or it can conduct customer satisfaction surveys. This will give it an idea of how well it is performing and how the change has benefited the customers.
