Managing Others
The main principle of ethics code in the place of work is to protect people in the work place and the organization itself from employee actions. Employees must face ethical issues in the working environment such as truth and honesty. Managers are required to develop ethical codes to enable them manage others well. Moreover, being trustworthy to employees is vital. This is because it enables employees to develop teamwork thus achieving success in an organization. On the other hand, being unethical is characterized by workplace dishonesty and corruption. Here, I will examine the case studies of the two real world examples of ethical and unethical practices, which I encountered in my place of employment.
I have encountered cases of ethical and unethical dilemmas in my place of employment on several occasions. The role of ethics is to enhance the well-being of others and ensure moral values are aligned with the values of an organization. I was employed as an assistant manager in a food manufacturing company. I gained popularity and loyalty because I developed good moral values that were aligning with the values of my job. I always maintained honest and served my employees well because I wanted to make sure employees achieved satisfaction. In case of conflict matters between the employees, I always solved the case perfectly and maintained justice. In addition, I made sure that quality and strategic management were maintained.
The outcome of the ethical practices in my place of work enabled me to gain loyalty from my employees and I achieved many benefits as well. I not only achieved benefits but also made the industry where I was workingto begin performing better. There were increased outputs and this led to increased profits. I maintained the good reputation of the business industry and my employees and staff members were all pleased with the good work that I was doing. The ethical values I practiced cultivated strong teamwork in the company. It led to increased productivity because of openness and integrity in the working place. My employees developed full confidence and they could face reality including both good and bad. Through my good moral practices, I promoted a strong public image and I was able to manage values associated with quality, strategic and diversity management.
Another example of unethical practices that I encountered in my place of work is the case of fraud and deceit. After working for a long time, things started changing because business ethics is sometimes challenging during the time of fundamental change. There was no clear compass to guide me through complex conflicts. Sometimes, I favored some employees especially those who were able to pay something little before I solve their issues. Moreover, I started becoming deceitful and I committed fraud in my working place. I became selfish and most of the time I always caused harm to my employees some of which ended up quitting the job because of me. Moreover, I could not maintain proper business records and I always forced my employees to sign legal documents unwillingly.
The outcomes of fraud and deceitfulness led to poor performance in the food manufacturing company. The industry could no longer maintain its good reputation and this led to loss of customers. Hence, the industry started encountering losses and the output level decreased. Consequently, employees started working individually and some of the employees had to quit the job because they could no longer withstand the situation. Due to fraud, the business started operating on debts and this contributed to high cost of production because the industry had to reduce the prices to get more customers. However, it could not take long time before I was fired from the business industry because of too much fraud and poor business record keeping which was poorly mismanaged.
