The assignment 1 will cover almost all materials covered in the course. Several cases will be given to students to select. Students will be required to implement the project from the initiate phase to the closing phase in document. The detail information regarding to this assignment are stated below.

Topic: Students are allowed to select the following topics.
Word count: 1000 words / students
Formatting: 12 Times New Roman, they project document should be single space. A title page should be included with you name. If necessary, an appendix may be included at the end of your work to for references.
1. You are the owner of a boutique in Hong Kong. In order to boost the sales in the coming Easter season. You have an idea to implement a sales promotion one month before Easter.
2. As a commander of Wan Chai police station, you are assigned to prepare to deal with the region security during the meeting of World Trade Organization held 13 –18, Dec 2005. From now, Jun 1, 2005, you will have about 6 months to prepare the security preparation.
3. In the competitive communication industry, your company PCCX faces declining sales of mobile service. As a marketing and sales manager, you are elected to be a project manager to implement a project to restore the declining sales of mobile service. The CEO told you that the most important is to regain market share. Limited budget and resources will be assigned for your project. He also told you that time is not the most important issues as long as the duration of the project is reasonable.
4. Your biggest cosmetic competitor, SK1, launch a newly developed natural and waterproof lipstick to its line. You, the managing director of a lipstick producer, maximfactor, acknowledge the trend of using natural ingredient to produce lipsticks. You are about to develop a new line of lipstick, which is also waterproof and natural in ingredient in order to face the challenge from your competitors. Acknowledging that the lipstick market is so important for company, you will contribute as much financial resource as possible. The biggest constrain for your project is the project scoop.
Your role: You are the owner to the business / project manager / project members. Your roles are to assign necessary resources and identify potential problems, and prepare the document of the project. All of the technical aspect to the project proposal should be based on what we learned in the course. The evaluation of the assignment will focus on how well you and your team can show the body knowledge of project management but the technical aspect of the project. The technical and the body knowledge will include the project life cycle, the project management processes, project management process groups, process interactions, project integration management, project scope management, project time management, cost management, quality, human resource, communications, risk and procurement management.
Your work should be well documented. You are encouraged to provide graphical illustration if needed.

Course Outline
Introduction
Project management is an important academic and study area. Such knowledge is usually considered essential and useful in many aspects of business especially for any activities related to project development. Learning the subject will benefit people who are working directly related to the subject such as project managers project team members as well as people who are indirectly related to the subject area.
This course provides the students the core knowledge on how to manage a project. With the combination of course materials, class discussions, and slide shows. Students will be able to understand the nature and the body knowledge of the subject. The beginning of the course will provide the students the fundamental knowledge of project management such as the definition of project, and project management, the project management context, project life cycle, project stakeholders, and organizational influences. Onward, students will all acquire deeply in various project management techniques and skills such as project integration, project scope management, project time management, cost management, quality, human resource, communications, risk and procurement management.
Objectives
At the end of the course, students will:
l Understand that there may be more than one way to deploy and implement a successful project.
l Familiar with various definitions, theories, languages of project management.
l Be able to apply what they learned to their work.
l Be able to analysis and discuss issues relating to project management.
l Be able to consider and apply various project management knowledge areas when they deploy a project.
Course setting
The course will be divided to three major areas. The first area is the introduction of project management, which will help students to understand the fundamental nature and theories of project management. The second area will focus on the standard of project management such as the project management processes, project management process groups, process interactions, project management process mapping. The third area will look deeply on various knowledge area of project management. They are the project integration management, project scope management, project time management, cost management, quality, human resource, communications, risk and procurement management.

Assignments and evaluations
In order to get maximize the benefit from the course and to successfully complete the course, it is important for students to understand their responsibilities. Students will be required to fulfill and meet the following standard in order to pass the course.
l The passing grade of the course is 50%
l Students are required to submit all of their assignment. In order to be fair to all students, assignments will be required to be submitted on time. Any late assignment will result a late penalty of 10% deduction for every class late.
Due to any reasons students fail to perform the above responsibilities are required to inform instructor as soon as possible.
Final reminder
Although Project management is considered to be a professional subject area, there are no absolute solutions to every project that we face in the future. If students face any problem regarding to the course, knowledge, and assignment, don’t panic, try to inform the instructor as soon as possible. There will be solutions.
